ASSISTED LIVING

What is Assisted Living?

Assisted Living is a residential facility that offers assistance with daily activities for people who are able to get around independently. Every community offers different levels of support, so it’s important to understand the level of care your loved one needs now as well as what health conditions may need further assistance in the future. Assisted Living communities are state-licensed and state-regulated developments that provide 24-hour access to supportive care staff for persons who don’t require full-time skilled nursing care but who might have considerable difficulties performing activities of daily living (ADLs). Some of these communities have designated units for people living with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. They are predominately private pay, but a small percentage accepts Medicaid. Medicare does not pay for assisted living communities. In general, settings for Assisted Living communities vary. Some assisted living services nationwide are also provided in residential settings. In these settings, seniors receive either a private or shared room in a residential neighborhood home within a senior community. .
